Town Walls 2 v Wrekin 1

Despite a rainy afternoon and the sight of a rainbow as we drove to Shrewsbury, we arrived through the puddled pot-holes to find that the courts were playable!
Wendy and Michelle played to their usual standard and won both rubbers, while Carol and Sarah played a supporting role. However our lack of games meant that we came away with a losing draw.
At the tea- table later we were told that our next opponents, Market Drayton ,were an excellent side who made very few mistakes. We awaited the match with some trepidation!

Wrekin 1 v Market Drayton

After an extra long warm up to make sure we were all prepared for the match ahead, the game was on.
The first set for the Wendy and Michelle was nip and tuck due to the power play and deceptive serving of the Market Drayton pair. Superb angles followed by extended rallies meant that the first set turned into a match of the highest calbre. We eventually got the breakthrough and won the set 6-3 . The second set was 6-1 which did not really reflect the play.
Kay and Alison, our second pair came back from6-1 and 5-1 down in the second to take the set to a tie break which they eventually lost.
After changearound, Wendy and Michelle won their match and Kay and Alison played well to win the first set before losing the ruuber against the 1st pair from Market Drayton.
This meant that Wrekin won the match by 1 set.

Last night , however at Worfield, the team returned to winning ways. After a wonderful evening of tennis and hospitality, Wrekin returned to Telford 7-1 winners with Michelle and Wendy having two good games against both pairings. Carol and Kay battled for a win against the 2nd couple and after winning the first set against the 1st couple, were unable to capitalise and lost the rubber on a 3rd set tie- break. To round off a pleasant evening we were taken to the Dog pub in the village where we all devoured the delicious sandwiches and chips!

On Wednesday 12th May our team of Michelle, Wendy, Kay and Alison played Hollies 1 at Wrekin. With the second ladies team also playing a match, there was a good atmosphere on the courts.Unfortunately this was not going to be our night, and Wrekin lost by the narrowest of margins- 4 games!

The second match was at home to Criftins 2 on April 28th and Wrekin won by 5 sets to 4 also. Michelle and Wendy were again in cracking form and won both their rubbers. The second pairing of Alison and Linda played better as the match went on and managed to gain a set against the 1st couple which led to our overall win.

The first ladies match took place on Thursday April 22nd away to Woodfield 2 which Wrekin1 won by 5 sets to 4.
Wendy and Michelle won against their first pair and were in terrific form in the second rubber, not allowing the home team to get a single game.
The new partnership of Carol and Kay supported their collegues by taking their rubber against the 1st couple to a 3rd set tie- breaker. They were a little disappointed with this , but were happy to get the win.
